self-motivation

This post is really more for myself then for anyone else but please, read on.

I've been in a bit of a gym rut lately. I'll go (grumpily) once, maybe twice a week, not put much into it, not trying or looking for results or improvements.

One of my coaches and friends posted this on facebook the other day (and I shared it so you may have already seen it).

On Tuesday, I went and I was feeling it. I was ready to get back. Luckily, it was an easy day. Wednesday was another story, if you don't know what a snatch is, you can look here. Of course, I can't lift NEARLY as much as this guy, in fact, I couldn't even get 65 pounds over my head, I literally  fell on my butt twice. I was so mad. Fuming.

Now today, I got off of 9 hours of work and decided I was going to sit myself down on the couch and watch some Gossip Girl. But you know what popped into my head? Yup, quote above. So I dragged my booty over to the gym. We worked on squats. I love squats. I have strong legs so I'm good at leg lifts. Upper body, as I told before, not my forte. I lifted way more than my previous max and I couldn't be happier.

The moral of the story (for myself) is that you will never regret a workout you do. I always regret not going to the gym.

Plus, I've lost about 15 pounds doing a nutritional challenge along with my fellow gym-mates. If that's not self-motivation to keep working, I don't know what is.

Okay, now for some fun:

I've never actually puked during a workout... but almost ;)

OKAY I'M DONE BEING AN ANNOYING CROSSFITTER.

try

the first time i heard this song was at work. it started and my boss said "this song is weird, listen to the lyrics" i didn't. but when it ended she said "weird huh?" i just agreed cause that's what you do when you don't actually know what is going on.

the next time i heard it one of my co-workers said "this is my favorite song!" still didn't listen to the words but the tune was catchy.

another day, it came on again. i listened. but i didn't think about what i was listening to.

yet another day went by and the song came on again. the same co-worker who loves the song was helping a customer who went on about what a great song it was and how amazing the music video was.

i didn't watch the music video yet. but i starting really listening to the words every time it came on.

today i watched the music video.

and everyone needs to watch it. i seriously started crying. it's such a beautiful message.

connect

so lately i've been slightly horrified at how attached i am to my phone and computer. it's like, i leave the house put my headphones in, stare down at my screen while i'm walking, riding the bus whatever, keep my headphones in till i walk back into my house then get on the computer the second i step into my room. i was on the bus the other day, headphones in and twitter open,  i took time to tear my eyes away from the screen to observe for a second. it was a full bus, not packed but full, EVERY. SINGLE. PERSON. on that bus had headphones in and were staring down at their screen. everyone of them. and... i was in awe. in a bad way.

what happened to meeting new people? i know it's kind of a joke about people having no friends and never leaving the house and avoiding socializing (i do it all the time cause that's totally me) but it's kind of sad. people have things to say and stories to tell and no one to tell them to because we are so focused on our 'connections'.

another instance, i was on the bus coming home from church a few weeks ago, as usual, i had my headphones in. there were two men, maybe in their 60's, sitting next to me. one looked at me and said "you have beautiful skin! it's like porcelain" flattered, i took my headphones out and said "thank you so much!" they then commented on my eyes. it wasn't like they were creepy old men hitting on me, they were sincere compliments. i thanked them again and put my headphones back in. they turned to me again and said, "you know, you take compliments very well. most women around here just blow off compliments and roll their eyes. i admire that you can take a compliment from a stranger." they then wished me a good day and got off the bus. that stuck with me that someone would be so rude to blow someone off when they are just saying good things about you to your face. yeah, maybe it's a little uncomfortable for some, but there's no need to be rude about it.

last week, i tried a facebook/twitter/netflix/buzzfeed (my latest addiction) fast and... it lasted one day. i am a slave to my phone and i'm horrified by it. my wonderful uncle randy posted this on facebook yesterday and i thought i'd share:

we are missing things in the real world by submerging ourselves into an electronic world. your kids aren't going to be kids forever. you're not going to be young forever. this world isn't always going to be as beautiful as it is now, it gets  uglier and sadder everyday and you're missing it by twitter stalking celebrities.

i'm fully guilty of all of this. and it's okay to be on facebook and twitter and all that fun stuff but i think everyone needs to 'disconnect to connect' every now and then.

the music universe hates me

mumford and sons played in slc last summer. i didn't buy tickets because i thought i'd be in sf by then.
i wasn't. then tickets were sold out.
mumford and sons is playing in berkeley in a month and tickets are sold out. i will also be in utah.

he is we played in utah a few summers ago when i was at youth conference.
he is we played in sf last week when i was in palm springs.
he is we played in logan last night when i was here in sf. the week before i go back to utah.

two of my all time favorite music groups just can't quite coincide with my schedule. ever.

*sigh*

in case anyone was wondering, i ate chocolate today so... that's wonderful.

i have a massive, nasty bruise on my leg. i walked into a gate.

this makes laugh every single time:

now let's all just take a moment to watch this, because, it too, is hilarious every time:
